One of my favorite trends that has stuck around since Covid is more intimate weddings. These are weddings with guests count less than 50 people. They really let these small venues shine, like the DC War Memorial (sometimes mistaken for the War World I Memorial). The War Memorial has always been one of my ‘favorite venues to never turn down’ list. So when Nick reached out to me about his summer DC War Memorial wedding to his longtime sweetheart, Kavita, I was so excited.
Nick and Kavita meet during college pre-pandemic. As their connection grew, their love stood the test of distance, loss, and Covid to bring them to their intimate wedding day in August. Their guest list included friends and family members from all over the US that made an impact on the couple over their years apart.
With the help of Nick’s aunts, they were able to plan a morning wedding at the DC War Memorial. The Memorial was reserved for two hours from 10:00am to Noon. with their ceremony scheduled to start promptly at 11:00am. As their friends and family started arrived, you could see the joy on their faces as they took in the classic beauty of the space. I asked Nick why they had chosen the War Memorial for their ceremony. He said, “First it was available on such short notice. But most importantly, it seemed like the perfect spot to start their lives together in their new home DC.”
After a beautiful ceremony and portraits around the Memorial, everyone loaded up on the transportation bus. They headed to the couple’s favorite Greek restaurant for a private lunch reception. After this, they returned to Nick’s aunt’s home in Embassy Square for champagne and cake. It turned out to be such a joyous day filled with love and laughter of the best kind. It was so perfect that the rainy weather (a crazy storm, in fact) held off until the last 2 blocks of me walking to my car.
