There’s something especially timeless about fall in Richmond, and Byrd Park in autumn never disappoints. Golden leaves, soft light filtering through the trees, and that quiet calm that settles in just before winter makes this location perfect for an intimate couples session.
This golden hour mini session captured everything that season does best: warmth, movement, and connection.
We scheduled this session during golden hour, when the light turns soft and directional and the park seems to glow. Byrd Park’s open lawns and tree-lined paths gave us space to move naturally, allowing the session to feel relaxed rather than posed.
The couple leaned into the moment completely. They laughed, walked hand in hand, and settled into the leaves together. Those in-between moments are always my favorite, and they tend to tell the story most honestly.
One of the best parts of this session was incorporating their dogs. Pets are such an important part of daily life, and including them made the images feel even more personal. Whether sitting together in the leaves or walking along the paths, the dogs added movement, joy, and a bit of playful unpredictability.
These are the kinds of details that make mini sessions feel full and meaningful, even in a shorter timeframe.
Byrd Park offers incredible variety in a compact area. During fall, the park becomes layered with color and texture, which photographs beautifully without overwhelming the subjects. It’s ideal for couples who want images that feel seasonal but timeless, with space to relax and simply be together.
Golden hour here always delivers, especially when the leaves are at their peak.

Mini sessions are a wonderful way to mark a season of life without the pressure of a full session. This couple’s gallery feels cozy, joyful, and grounded in the moment they’re in right now, which is exactly what these sessions are meant to capture.
If you’re drawn to images that feel warm, natural, and connected, fall mini sessions are always worth keeping on your radar.
