Keri and Hunter’s engagement photos at Maymont in Richmond, Virginia did not disappoint. NOT. ONE. BIT. Maymont’s Italian Gardens are a romantic choice for engagement photos any time of year, but even more so at the start of Spring when everything starts to bloom. But wait we scheduled our session for FEBRUARY 19th! Right when we should be in the full swing of Winter around the city.
Maymont has such a diverse landscape that gives Richmond photographers like myself lots of opportunities for portraits, even in the Winter. We have had an exceptionally warm winter around Richmond this year. Making for very early blooms around the park! We were blessed with 60 degree weather at ten in the morning, blossoming trees, and a beautiful sunshining day.
While wandering around the gardens of Maymont, Keri and Hunter were complete naturals in front of the camera. We chatted about their September 23rd (My Birthday!! 😍) Chicago Wedding, Hunter’s residence at MCV in the surgical department, and all the struggles of long curly hair. See Hunter & I both have/had long curls and we bonded quickly over our locks. We also chatted about Keri’s love for teaching sweet little minds as a Richmond elementary school teacher.
They shared their proposal story of how Hunter planned a beautiful sunrise proposal over Shockoe Bottom at Libby Hill Park. Keri thought they were getting together with some of their other Richmond friends to watch the sunrise of the city and enjoy a little picnic breakfast. When they arrived it was quickly clear that was not the real plan. Hunter had the hill side decorated in twinkle lights and ‘WILL YOU MARRY ME’ spelled out. I absolutely love this new trend of going all out and planning the most unique proposals.
In September they will officially become Husband & Wife. I wish I could be there on their memorable day, but they will be in great hands. When Keri inquired with me for engagement photos, I was so excited to give them memorable photos to connect their now home of Richmond with their wedding and childhood home state of Illinois.
