Sometimes the best sessions are the ones that turn out differently than planned.
After having to reschedule once because of the weather, the Stuckey family and I finally met on a beautiful afternoon at Barboursville Vineyards. The rolling hills, open sky, and golden light made it feel like the perfect Virginia evening.
This motherhood session at Barboursville Vineyards felt meant to be.
I’ve had the joy of photographing both of these beautiful girls before during their preschool years, so seeing them again was such a treat. They’ve grown so much, yet they still had that same sparkle and curiosity I remembered.
The girls were full of energy and laughter that day, running between the vines and exploring the fields in their own way. Their mom was worried we might not get any decent photos because the girls were so playful. But I always remind parents that those moments are the best ones. The energy, movement, and joy are what make each session unique.
Motherhood sessions are never about perfect poses or still smiles.
They’re about connection, emotion, and the little in-between moments that tell your family’s story. I love capturing the way a mom looks at her children, the way kids reach for her hand, or the laughter that fills the space between them. Those real moments become the ones families treasure most.
Every image from this session feels alive—full of love, laughter, and light. These are the photos that remind us that real is always better than perfect.
After our session, we discovered something amazing.
Mom actually works with my husband at the same company! They’ve even collaborated on several projects over the years, and somehow none of us realized it until now. What a small, wonderful world.
I left Barboursville that evening with a full heart and a camera full of images that I knew Mom would love. The girls’ joy, her laughter, the golden light—it all came together to tell their story in the most genuine way.
