Winter maternity sessions have a quiet kind of beauty, and this session at Morven Park felt especially meaningful.
Photographed just days before Christmas, Morven Park offered the most peaceful setting. The trees were bare, the light was soft, and the grounds felt calm and still. Winter sessions often mean fewer crowds, and this day was no exception. It truly felt like we had the entire park to ourselves.
There is something incredibly special about photographing maternity sessions in the winter. Without the distraction of busy foliage or crowds, the focus stays exactly where it should be. On connection, anticipation, and the season of waiting.
This session held an extra layer of meaning for me. Connie and David are a wedding couple of mine from a few years ago, and getting to document them again as they step into parenthood felt full circle.
Watching past wedding couples grow their families is one of the greatest joys of this work. There is already trust, comfort, and familiarity, which allows sessions like this to feel relaxed and natural from the start.
Now, they are preparing to welcome not one, but two baby girls in the early spring. The excitement, tenderness, and quiet awe that comes with expecting twins was present in every moment we captured.
Morven Park is stunning in every season, but winter brings a different kind of elegance. The historic architecture, open walkways, and neutral tones create a timeless backdrop that pairs beautifully with maternity sessions.
Winter light is softer and more even, which is especially flattering for portraits. Combined with fewer visitors, it allows space to move slowly, pause often, and truly enjoy the experience.
This session was a reminder that winter should never be overlooked when planning maternity photos. It offers calm, simplicity, and a sense of intimacy that feels especially fitting for this season of life.
As Connie and David prepare to welcome their twin daughters in just a few short months, this session felt like a quiet pause before everything changes again.
I am so honored to continue documenting their story, from their wedding day to this exciting new chapter. Capturing these moments before the arrival of their girls was a gift, and I cannot wait to see what the next season holds for their growing family.

Winter maternity sessions offer a calm, intimate experience that feels especially meaningful during this season of waiting. If you are expecting and considering a maternity session in Northern Virginia, I would love to help you plan something timeless and relaxed that reflects this chapter of your story.
